Cornelia Parker

I have always found Cornelia Parker’s work inspirational . Astonished and awed by the scale, ambition and creativity of her sculptural works. And challenged by the powerful conceptual aspects of her works.

I visited her Retrospective at Tate Britain in June 2022

As well as her famous large scale works – such as Thirty Pieces of Silver and Cold Dark Matter I was particularly struck by the works that were incredibly simple in their form visually, but laden deep with meaning in their concept – works such as the Negatives of Words and the Negatives of Sound. These are extremely simple in their visual form – both are just piles of shavings. But they convey so elegantly a deep concept – the overlooked unseen inverse of an object.

They gave me confidence for my own Wall installations that a simple visual form (the plain hemispheres of Primum non nocere) can be imbued with power when it is conveying something of meaning.
