Gary Hume’s work very much resonates with me.
He uses formal experiments in minimalism and abstraction but combines this with a narrative content – so that his works have meaning on a very human level.
This has served for me as a model for how to reconcile my desire to stay focussed on the formal elements and minimalism with a need to use my art to address human struggles and issues.
Like myself he develops works through iterative formal experiments with the same elements that build into a series.
